Patient's question:
Hello pediatrician, recently my child has had diarrhea, and I am very worried. The symptoms have been recurring, and we have already had some tests done. I hope you can help us.Doctor's answer:
Gastroenteritis (also known as stomach flu) is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines that can cause diarrhea in infants, children, and adults. Gastroenteritis is very common and can be caused by many different viruses. The most common pathogen is rotavirus, which infects half of the children hospitalized for diarrhea and is most prevalent at the end of autumn and the beginning of winter. If your baby has diarrhea accompanied by stomach cramps, vomiting, and low fever, it is likely gastroenteritis. Please note that if your baby eats or drinks very little, they may lose a lot of fluids. It is recommended not to give juice to babies under 6 months old, and after 6 months, the daily juice intake should not exceed about 113~170 milliliters. Improperly prepared formula milk can also cause diarrhea in babies, so when mixing formula milk, make sure to add water in the correct proportions.
