Features: The Outline of Chinese History was decided upon in the 1961 meeting of the Higher Education Literature and Arts Textbook Selection Plan, and commissioned by Professor Jian Bozan to organize the writing of the book as a textbook for Chinese general history in higher education literature and arts programs. During the writing and discussion process, Professor Jian Bozan frequently engaged in repeated discussions with the writing team members on matters such as format, theoretical application, and historical source evaluation. He repeatedly emphasized the need to adhere to a historical perspective, using historical facts to explain issues, and to ground the arguments in solid scientific research. In the final draft, he meticulously reviewed and polished every word. These efforts fully reflect his dedication as the editor-in-chief and his serious attitude toward historical science. In 1982, at the request of readers, the book was divided into two volumes. It was revised and reissued in 1994. In 2006, a second revision was conducted and published by Peking University Press. These revisions were made while preserving the original characteristics, incorporating new research findings, and making appropriate adjustments and additions to some content, aiming to ensure the book aligns with current research levels and teaching needs.
