Yu Dafu was fifteen years younger than Lu Xun but they were contemporaries. Yu Dafu wrote about Lu Xun without the task of portraying a heroic image, nor the intention of feigning closeness to call himself a "veteran comrade," which made his writing free and easy. It is precisely because of this freedom and ease that his writing is authentic. The long essay "Reminiscence of Lu Xun" and all writings about Lu Xun included in this book use the earliest published versions as much as possible without any deletions or modifications to preserve authenticity.
