Features: A source of Western modern civilization, a cradle of Western parliamentary democracy, a pioneer of modernization, an "Empire on which the sun never sets," a nation of noble gentlemen, a treasure trove of Western literature. Her history is worth your repeated study. As the author of this book, I would like to introduce its features to the readers: First, to shorten the length and stimulate readers' interest, I have put considerable effort into making it concise. I first wrote a preliminary draft of over 400,000 words, then edited it down, and finally retained the current length. Second, in terms of format, I was inspired by Yuan Shu's Annals of the Comprehensive Mirror in Chronicles from the Song Dynasty and attempted to use a "storytelling" approach, focusing on explaining the transitions of eras, political changes, and the backgrounds of major events. At the same time, I drew on the writing styles of some concise histories from abroad and intentionally added content on social and cultural history that has long been overlooked in domestic works, aiming to enhance the depth, authenticity, and readability of the history. The dozens of illustrations and maps included are also helpful for readers to gain a more intuitive understanding. Third, I have strived to maintain the academic rigor of the book. While paying attention to absorbing research findings from both domestic and international sources, I have also tried to offer my own insights on certain issues.
