Lu You's Chronology: One of the three chronologies written by Lu You at Beishan

Author: Yu Beishan
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-06-01
Features: A chronicle of Lu You's life, preceded by Qing Dynasty Qian Daxin's Chronicle of Master Lu Fangweng and Zhao Yi's Chronicle of Master Lu Fangweng. Qian's chronicle was too small in scale, while Zhao's was too brief in detail. Building on the work of predecessors, this book extensively consulted relevant materials, especially internal evidence, with the author demonstrating deep effort. It is organized in the style of current events, chronicle entries, and appendices. The current events section introduces the broader context of the Song-Jin confrontation, providing a vast historical backdrop; the chronicle entries narrate the life of the main figure, Lu You, including his thoughts, art, and social circles. The appendices clarify the sources of the documents. The book is rich in material and meticulous in research. As the name suggests, it presents a year-by-year account of the life of the famous Song Dynasty poet Lu You. The book is written in classical Chinese, using both simplified and traditional characters, and arranged vertically, giving it an ancient book-like charm. Therefore, if you are not familiar with traditional characters or classical Chinese, this book may not be suitable for you to read.
