1. This book includes 188 families, 772 genera, and 2,354 species of flowers, with over 1,470,000 words and more than 1,000 illustrations. It is divided into three parts: Introduction, General Discussion, and Specific Discussions. The Introduction, titled "Flowers of China," comprehensively introduces the history and current state of floral development in China. The General Discussion covers basic knowledge of flower cultivation. The Specific Discussions provide detailed information on each flower, including common name, scientific name, alias, family and genus, cultivation, brief cultivation history, origin and distribution, morphological characteristics, species, varieties, and cultivars, habits, propagation, cultivation, breeding, related species, and application. There are also three appendices: "Chronicle of the Development of Flower Culture in China," "Historical Flower Books in China," and "Famous Horticulturists in China."
2. The flowers collected in this book include ornamental plants, ornamental fruit plants, ornamental leaf plants, grasses, vines, etc. The main focus is on native flowers of China. Wild flowers with ornamental value and development potential, as well as foreign-introduced flowers that have been domesticated for a long time or have further developed, are also appropriately introduced.
3. The arrangement of flowers in the Specific Discussions follows a specific order: the top 24 key flowers of China are listed first, with the top 10 traditional famous flowers of China ranked highest (). Then, the flowers are arranged according to the Engler plant classification system (refer to "Illustrated Flora of Higher Plants in China"). Within the same family, plants are arranged in alphabetical order by their Latin names.
4. The Latin names of species or varieties/variants of flowers are italicized, while the Latin names of cultivars are in plain text.
5. The names of cultivated varieties of flowers are marked with single quotation marks or the symbol "CV," with the first letter capitalized, according to the "International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants."
6. At the end of the book, there are an "Index by Stroke," a "Pinyin Index," and a "Latin Name Index" for easy reference by readers both in China and abroad.
