Among them, "History of Ming and Qing Drama" is based on the first edition published by the Commercial Press in Shanghai in 1935; "Notes on Reading Drama" is based on the second edition published by the Commercial Press in Changsha in 1941; "Quatrain on Discussing Drama" is based on the lead-printed edition of the National Chengdu University in 1912 and the photolithographed edition of the Shanghai Kaiping Bookstore's Sichuan imprint in 1931, with reference to the annotated edition by Ji Guoping of the Chinese Department of Yangzhou Normal University in 1982. "Drinking Dragon Qu Discourse" is based on the Republican-era edition of Ma Ji Wen Zhai in Henan. An appendix at the end of the book includes articles recalling Lu Qian by Zhang Youlan and Zhao Jingshen.
