Features: This book is based on the administrative divisions of Suzhou during the Republican era and references the administrative affiliations of Suzhou in 2000. The geographical scope includes the urban area of Suzhou and the surrounding regions of Wujiang, Taicang, Kunshan, Changshu, and Zhangjiagang. This local art and literature chronicle compiles bibliographies of works by Suzhou natives who studied, lived, or were born in Suzhou. It includes works by Suzhou natives residing in other cities or regions, as well as scholars from other cities, provinces, or regions who lived in Suzhou and their literary works. Additionally, it selectively includes entries on prominent social figures and scholars whose lives were significantly influenced by Suzhou. The time frame for compiling this chronicle follows these principles: the upper limit is set for scholars who died after the late Qing dynasty and published their works during that period, ensuring a reasonable overlap with Jiangsu Art and Literature Chronicle·Suzhou Volume without excessive repetition. This time frame helps maintain the continuity of cultural lineage. The lower limit is rigidly set at September 30, 1949. That is: works by individuals who died in 1949 are fully included; scholars born during the Republic era who were active after the founding of the People's Republic of China are also included, with their first editions limited to 1949, while subsequent editions are not bound by this restriction. This chronicle collects bibliographies of works published by Suzhou scholars during the Republican era, covering fields such as philosophy, religion, social sciences, and natural sciences. It includes books written, edited, annotated, reviewed, translated, collated, supplemented, and other forms of publications, such as stone rubbings, manuscripts, handwritten copies, mimeographed works, and other reading materials. Generally, academic papers and scattered works are not included.
