New Joke (1)

Author: Yi Xiao (Editor-in-Chief)
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-01-01
Features: The "Old Jokes" and "Foreign Jokes" were so popular that they made the joke lovers happy, the book merchants speechless, but exhausted Shufanzhi and Yi Xiao. After some discussion, they decided to call it a day. They posted notices on their own doors: "All publishing house staff are hereby forbidden entry." The editors were furious but helpless, so they came to me. Unable to resist the threats and temptations, the younger Yi Xiao, after a few cups of old wine, declared, "Alright! In honor of everyone's respect for me, let's do a 'tail of a dog'!" Thus, three manuscripts for "New Jokes" were handed back to the editors. The editor smiled mischievously and left with the line, "You can't escape the 15th after dodging the 1st. Shufanzhi, don't laugh too soon!" With a sigh, Shufanzhi said, "You've dragged us all onto the 'thief ship' with your jokes!" I patted the shoulders of the two, "The more people enjoy humor, the better our lives are getting. How wonderful!" The two echoed in unison, "How wonderful!" Unlike "Old Jokes" and "Foreign Jokes," "New Jokes" closely ties in with modern people's lifestyles—business, leisure, education, and learning—focusing on humor related to these themes to better suit the reading habits and tastes of contemporary joke lovers. A fusion of jokes from both China and the world, blending Eastern and Western humor, it doesn't aim to make the joke lovers laugh uncontrollably but rather hopes they'll say after closing the book, "I feel a year younger!" The publication of "New Jokes" has achieved its goal. Old, foreign, and new—three series combined into nine books in a set. Whether it's a "tail of a dog" or a "dog's tail"? The joke lovers are the best judges. We kindly invite the joke lovers to score.
