Features: In the eyes of ordinary people, a leader with a wise minister by his side is bound to be like fish in water, sharing the same aspirations. In reality, this is often not the case. While a wise minister is indispensable, if the minister is too virtuous, there is always a risk of threatening the ruler's authority. Therefore, the ruler must keep the minister on his toes, making him cautious as if walking on thin ice. In this regard, Sima Qian truly was a master. If this chapter were written by later generations of fools, it would undoubtedly portray Liu Bang and Xiao He as united, respectful, and loving. In that case, the true history would be twisted. The combination of the "Way of the King" and the "Way of the" () is a concise and refined summary of the Han dynasty rulers' reflections on the rise and fall of history. Governance should employ both the "Way of the King" and the "Way of the," but the "Way of the" is often deliberately kept silent. Forceful rule can be pursued, but in words, only the "Way of the King" can be discussed. This is the fundamental ruling tactic of rulers and the key to China's success in governance for 2,000 years. We see that those who do not respect others' lives are often brought down by others, including those who respect others' lives even less. The saying "villains have their own kind to contend with" applies to this situation: some who narrowly escape death are overturned the moment their bodies are cold. Of course, this does not mean that there is a natural justice in life; it simply shows that relying solely on evil means cannot support a rich and meaningful life. The Western Han dynasty spanned over 200 years, leaving behind many legends that endure to this day. This book, based on ancient records such as the Records of the Grand Historian and the Book of the Han Dynasty, uses modern language to recreate historical events. It follows the political system as its narrative thread, weaving together numerous short chapters around the theme to create a coherent and engaging text. It is both easy to read and understand, distinguishing itself from fictional works, and possesses high academic and reading value. The over 70 articles in this book are not mere retellings of historical facts; they also contain one or even multiple questions. These questions naturally include my own reflections, though raising one question may obscure another. These articles are guaranteed to be smooth, but their smoothness comes from the slow pace of writing. Only when historical events and figures come alive in my mind do I dare to put pen to paper and write with a single breath. Therefore, what you see is definitely not a hastily and poorly crafted book chasing trends.
