Afterward, he taught art and music in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Guilin, and other places, while also engaging in cartoon and literary creation. He wrote extensively throughout his life, with works such as "Complete Collection of Zikai Cartoons," "Protective Life Pictures," and "Yuan Yuan Hall Notes." After the May Fourth Movement, he began cartoon creation. His early cartoons exposed the darkness of old China, while later works often combined classical poetry with modern paintings, frequently featuring children's lives as themes. He once said, "I aim to bridge the relationship between literature and painting," and created works like "Drum and Gongs Resound." He served as the President of Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy and the Chairman of Shanghai Branch of the Chinese Artists Association. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he published many works on art and music.
