Features: This book records a tough trek with self-provided food and sleeping gear in the Meili Snow Mountain, a mountain circuit pilgrimage, and survival insights. In the Meili Snow Mountain, there is a mysterious trail that has been circumambulated by Tibetan followers for over 700 years. It takes over ten days to complete a full circuit, passing through the sparsely populated primeval forests at the border of Yunnan and Tibet provinces, crossing the two major rivers in Asia, the Lancang River and the Nujiang River, and climbing two snow passes above 4,000 meters in altitude. It traverses ancient and modern glaciers, a journey of walking amidst high mountains and great rivers. It's a walking game where one can only stop after completing a full circuit. This book documents our arduous trek around the outer perimeter of Meili Snow Mountain over more than ten days, following the endless stream of 21st-century pilgrims in a special year.
Meili Snow Mountain is a towering snow peak in the southern foothills of the Himalayas, stretching north-south with snow-capped summits year-round. The Lancang River flows at its eastern foot, while the Nujiang River flows at its western base. In other words, Meili Snow Mountain is the watershed between the two major rivers in Asia—the Lancang River (Mekong) and the Nujiang River (Salween). Can a snow mountain capable of separating such two great rivers be ordinary? Can its wonders be fully described? Once you truly see it with your own eyes, you will understand why humans cannot lack gratitude and why faith is indispensable. I gradually came to realize why it is one of the "Eight Great Sacred Mountains of Tibet" during the most painful times of my life, and through it, I reflected on the inevitable connection between ancient sacred sites and the people of the present and future.
