This is the first book in China that seriously examines and studies Mahler's music, and its significance is evident. The focus of this work is on the spiritual connotations of Mahler's music, with a tendency toward a sociological perspective and dimension. This research direction and scope are appropriate. The author closely grasps the unique circumstances, artistic trends, and traditional cultural characteristics of German-Austrian society at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries, especially the composer's distinctive personal life experiences and psychological journey, and on this basis, meticulously elaborates on the profound spiritual connotations of Mahler's music. This is also a relatively weak aspect in the vast amount of Western Mahler research literature. Based on a thorough review of a substantial amount of relevant theoretical literature, the author, through his own actual experience, understanding, and analysis of Mahler's music, presents his interpretation of the intrinsic spirit and meaning embedded in it. It can be said that this book fills the gaps and shortcomings in Western works in this regard, and to some extent deepens the understanding and recognition of the essence of Mahler's music, which deserves full affirmation.
