His father named him "Dingxin," inspired by Sun Yat-sen, the revolutionary pioneer who admired the high mountains and advocated "reforming the old and establishing the new." In 1924, Hu Qiaojiu was admitted to Jiangsu No. 8 Middle School (now Yangzhou Middle School) with outstanding academic performance. That year, he was the only student from Anhu Lake Primary School admitted to Jiangsu No. 8 Middle School. At the provincial middle school, Hu Qiaojiu began to come into contact with progressive publications such as Youth of China, The Guide, and the single-volume edition of The Communist Manifesto, among others. Hu Qiaojiu gradually realized the political significance and practical content of the Communist Party's call for anti-imperialism and anti-feudalism to eliminate exploitation and poverty in China, achieving socialism and communism. At the same time, he learned about the October Socialist Revolution in Russia, Marxist theory, and its discussions on social revolution. Hu Qiaojiu's political inclinations became increasingly clear.
