Publish Date: 2005-07-01
Features: This book is one of the four chronological histories by Lu Simian. Lu Simian was a master of modern Chinese historiography, renowned for his extensive writings and remarkable achievements. First published in 1947, it has been reprinted multiple times and has become one of the essential reference books for studying the history of the Qin and Han dynasties. It is now a classic work in the history of modern Chinese academia. Like the earlier published History of Pre-Qin China, this book is divided into two parts. The first half is a political history, arranged in chronological order of historical events, while the second half is a socio-economic and cultural history, presented in a categorized manner. The new edition of History of the Qin and Han Dynasties is based on the original version published by Kaixin Bookstore, incorporating corrections and revisions by Lu Simian and other scholars. The original double-column vertical print with annotations has been changed to single-column horizontal print with footnotes. In addition to correcting some errors in the original text, other aspects such as customary expressions, sentence structure, and conceptual terminology have been left unchanged. The Annotations of History of the Qin and Han Dynasties were originally compiled by the author for his research work, with very concise text. Some entries are merely indicative summaries but are all marked with corresponding page numbers. They are now appended to the main text as footnotes for reference.
