East Asian History Notes -- A Collection of Japanese Sinological Writings

Author: Yasuyuki Kuwahara

Publish Date: 2005-07-01
Features: We have not selected large-scale monographs like "Examination of the Shangshu Cited in Wenxuan by Li Shan's Notes" by Spinoro Rokuro or "Research on the Text of Bai Juyi's Collection Based on Old Manuscripts" by Taro Ota for this series. They hold high academic value but have a narrow readership. These books are important, and they should be translated and introduced when the conditions are met. What we aim to do first is to help readers get acquainted with a group of more accessible guests, that is, books written for non-Chinese scholars by scholars. The selected bibliography includes several new works, but most are "small books" written by "Daigaku." Some focus on preserving Chinese documentary materials, some on supplementing local Chinese studies, some on the historical role in Japanese-Chinese relations research, and some on their influence in the Japanese academic world. We take one aspect at a time, not seeking perfection, accumulate little by little, without strict criteria, balancing academic rigor and readability. Through this series, readers can gradually meet those long-known but unseen scholars, sharing the landscape of Japanese Sinology.
