Features: The small book format known as "jinxiang" originated in the Southern Qi Dynasty and flourished during the Song Dynasty. From the Ming and Qing dynasties onward, new designs emerged in each era. The term "jinxiang" refers to the small portable boxes used in the past to store items like handkerchiefs and miscellaneous small belongings. In ancient times, people studied and recited texts at any time, whether sitting or lying down, and carried books with them. Thus, the format was made small enough to fit into these "jinxiang" boxes. For travel, they were portable, and for reading at rest, they were convenient. Leisurely moments were spent admiring these books. Although the "jinxiang" book is considered the younger sibling in the world of books, it upholds the principle of Confucius, "Learn and practice in due time," and has achieved great success. Unfortunately, in modern times, with the influence of Western culture, books have adopted Western bindings, becoming increasingly ornate and heavy. Carrying them is like a burden for an ox, and reading in bed is difficult for even a short time. Worse still, some are outwardly rich but inwardly hollow, with heavy cases and lightweight content, misleading readers and drifting farther from the true essence of books.
Shanghai Ancient Books Press has created the "Jinxiang Series" with a purpose. By learning from the successes and shortcomings of jinxiang books throughout history, the series aims to return to simplicity and elegance, promoting national culture. The design is small yet complete, the price is affordable yet carefully selected for quality, the selection of titles is purposeful yet emphasizes personal charm and literary interest, and the organization is logical for both individual purchases and collections, bringing great satisfaction.
With fragrant paper, vibrant color printing, meticulous proofreading, and lively layouts, this series demonstrates a great effort and dedication to small books, making them irresistible upon first sight. Mountains need not be high to be divine; books need not be expensive to possess charm. Therefore, the series is named "Shuyun Lou," and refined gentlemen will surely appreciate its meaning.
This is the preface. The book includes "Quhai Jushi Changduanju," "Xiaoshan Ci," "Zhuzyu Ci," "Qingzhen Ji," and "Lezhang Ji."
