Features: The development of academic endeavors is like the Yangtze River, vast and unceasing, with waves following waves. It is also like the passing of the torch, with each generation building upon the achievements and experiences of the previous one, making the light brighter. Later scholars must understand the work done by their predecessors, inherit their accomplishments and insights, and continue to advance on this foundation. The Academic Committee of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences brings together dozens of senior experts from dozens of disciplines within our institution, each with decades of research experience in their respective fields and having made significant contributions. The published series features representative works selected by each expert from their academic careers, showcasing their diligent academic journey and reflecting the achievements and developments in various fields of philosophy and social sciences in China over the past few decades, especially since the reform and opening-up. This is a highly meaningful endeavor.
This Collection focuses on the author's two to three decades of research, primarily within the field of demography, exploring the relationship between population and economic development. It centers on the study of population development strategies and their policy choices. At the same time, it deepens theoretical and methodological research in demography, striving to advance theoretical studies through in-depth empirical research and, conversely, to drive empirical research forward through the refinement of theoretical insights.
The fifth section of the Collection, "Demographic Discipline Construction and Academic Exchange," includes 12 articles that reflect the outcomes of discipline-building efforts in demography and offer systematic insights into the development of demographic science in China.
