Features: Sichuan residential architecture, from a geographical perspective, exhibits distinct characteristics in mountainous areas, hilly regions, riverside locations, and flatlands, as well as in eastern, southern, western, and northern Sichuan. From an ethnic perspective, Han, Tibetan, Qiang, Yi, Hui, Miao, Yao, and Naxi ethnic groups each have unique architectural styles. From a social function perspective, there are differences in urban, town, rural, and pastoral areas. These historically formed residential buildings, with their diverse styles, are outstanding architectural achievements created by the people of all ethnic groups in Sichuan over long-term production and life. Some are even considered treasures of folk architecture. Due to economic development and social progress, changes in people's lifestyles have made it undeniable that some residential buildings no longer fully meet the needs of modern production and lifestyles in terms of functionality, structure, and equipment. Some have been or are being demolished in large quantities due to land-use relocations. However, the historical, economic, and cultural value of these "treasures" is objectively real and irreplaceable. In addition to protecting some residential buildings of higher value, these outstanding achievements of folk architecture will undoubtedly remain an important source of inspiration for creating nationally and modernly oriented architecture. The publication of this book will undoubtedly contribute to the exploration, organization, and research of Sichuan residential architecture, playing a significant role in promoting traditional Chinese architectural culture.
