Features: Zhou Guoping: Born in Shanghai in July 1945, he entered the Department of Philosophy at Peking University in 1962. After graduating in 1968, he worked in a Hunan farm for one and a half years before being assigned to work in Ziyuan County, Guangxi. In 1978, after the college entrance examination was resumed, he entered the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and later obtained master's and doctoral degrees in philosophy. A renowned expert in Nietzschean philosophy in China, he has published over 20 works, including Nietzsche: At the Turning Point of the Century, Niu Niu: A Father's Notes, Man and Eternity, and Love and Loneliness, which have had a significant impact on readers. Zhou Guoping believes that success can be measured by two standards: his own standards and societal standards. From a societal perspective, he considers himself successful, having been accepted by readers and gaining a certain reputation. However, in terms of importance, societal evaluation is merely a byproduct for him, with a strong element of chance. His own definition of success lies in doing what he loves and doing it perfectly. His interests happen to align with his profession, which he considers a great fortune. He has always taken a detached attitude toward the boundaries between disciplines. Some colleagues at his unit once accused him of being unprofessional, but in reality, he was still engaged in philosophy, just in a different way. For someone studying a problem, philosophy and literature cannot be separated. Literature can better and more vividly express his philosophical views and reflections. What he writes and to which field it belongs are not important; what matters is writing well, which is the most important thing. He admires Nietzsche because he was a philosopher who focused on life issues. Nietzsche did not view philosophy as purely academic but approached it with passion for life. This admiration has influenced his style. He is interested in many life issues, thinks about them, feels them, and writes about them.
