Poetry Discussion -- Century Library

Author: Zhu Guangqian
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2005-04-01
Features: This book is the representative work of Zhu Guangqian, a modern Chinese aesthetic theorist. Zhu Guangqian had a strong affinity for poetry and conducted in-depth research on Western literary psychology. He began writing this book during his studies in Europe in 1931 and it was officially published in 1943, taking over a decade to complete. It had a significant impact at the time and became a milestone in the construction of the modern Chinese poetic theory system. To this day, it still holds high academic value. In the postscript to the Sanlian Press edition of On Poetry, the elderly Zhu Guangqian wrote with a sense of pride: "Among my past writings, I believe the one I put the most effort into and that has some original insights is this On Poetry." Of course, this statement contains an element of modesty. Zhu Guangqian's creative contributions to modern Chinese aesthetic theory are all-encompassing. However, regarding On Poetry itself, the assessment of this hardworking aesthetic elder is entirely justified—it can be said that "the art of writing is a matter for ages, and only the author knows its gains and losses."
