Features: Lei Haizong, styled Bolun, was born in Yongqing County, Hebei Province in 1902. In 1927, he obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, USA. After returning to China, he taught at Nanjing Central University, Wuhan University, Tsinghua University, and Southwest Associated University, holding positions such as professor and department head. In 1952, during the nationwide reorganization of academic institutions, Lei Haizong was transferred to serve as the director of the World History Teaching and Research Section of the History Department at Nankai University. He passed away on December 12, 1962. Professor Lei Haizong was a scholar of great erudition and virtue, whose academic research spanned the ancient and modern worlds, forming a unique and profound system. He published important papers such as A Study of the Shang-Zhou Period, The Forms and Examples of History, and Climate and Agriculture in Ancient North China, with his representative work being Chinese Culture and Chinese Warfare. His recent published works include An Outline of the History of Western Culture and The Collected Works of Bolun.
