Features: This book is compiled for senior and junior English majors in colleges and universities, divided into two volumes. The first volume includes twelve prose works, covering narrative, descriptive, expository, and argumentative types. Most of the articles were written in the 1940s, which is after World War II, with a few from the 1930s. Among the twelve authors, nine are from the United Kingdom and Ireland, and three are from the United States. The length of each article is approximately 1,000 to 3,000 words. To suit teaching needs, we have made some to certain original texts. The content of the articles is generally healthy, but it is not without issues. We usually clarify our perspectives through author introductions, questions, and sentence explanations.
