Features: "A Study of Ancient Bronze Drums in the Sichuan University History Museum" and "A Further Study of Bronze Drums" are important early works by our institution's distinguished scholar, Professor Wen You, on the research of bronze drums. They reflect the level of bronze drum studies at that time and hold significant academic value in the history of bronze drum research. They also provide considerable reference value for archaeological studies of southern ethnic groups. These two books were published in May and September 1953, respectively, and have not been reprinted since then. They are now extremely rare in the market, which is indeed a great regret.
Now, our institution's leadership has proposed the initiative "to organize and preserve our institutional heritage and promote our fine academic traditions." To advance the study of bronze drums and the development of ethnic archaeology in China, we have specially reorganized and published these two important works by Professor Wen You for academic reference. The following are the editorial notes for the compilation:
1. These two books were originally published separately. They are now combined into one volume and given new titles: "A Study of Bronze Drums" and "A Further Study of Bronze Drums."
2. The original books were photocopied from handwritten manuscripts, printed in vertical columns with traditional Chinese characters. They have now been converted into printed text in horizontal columns with simplified Chinese characters.
3. "A Study of Ancient Bronze Drums in the Sichuan University History Museum" was originally not divided into chapters. Based on the content, we have now appropriately divided it into sections and added titles to each section. "A Further Study of Bronze Drums," which was already divided into sections but lacked titles, now also has titles added to each section.
4. The original books did not number the illustrations, which were inserted inline with the text. To conform to modern academic conventions, we have now grouped the illustrations appropriately and numbered them sequentially.
5. The original books did not enclose the titles of Chinese and foreign literature in quotation marks or use special markings. We have now added quotation marks to all titles.
6. When the original books mentioned the names of foreign scholars, they generally used the Chinese translation followed by the original name, such as "Hegel P.Heger." We have now standardized this to the format of Chinese translation (original name), such as "Hegel (F.Heger)." The same applies to the titles of foreign literature.
7. The original books generally retained their punctuation marks, with only minor adjustments made in specific cases.
8. All other aspects remain unchanged.
