Features: Professor Qiu Peiran is a grandmaster of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). He not only possesses profound expertise in medicine but is also a scholar versed in literature, history, and philosophy, as well as a poet whose artistry lies beyond medicine. This year, Professor Qiu celebrated his 80th birthday, and a collection of his works, Selected Works of Qiu Peiran, has been published. The medical essays and case studies in the collection are truly outstanding, reflecting the essence of TCM. Works such as A Study on Zhang Zhongjing’s Role as the Governor of Changsha, Sun Simiao’s Methods of Health Preservation, and An Examination of the Course of the Eight Extraordinary Meridians demonstrate the author’s depth in historical research and theoretical studies of TCM. Over a hundred case studies highlight the essence of Professor Qiu’s 70 years of medical practice. Even more commendable is his passionate advocacy for the revitalization of TCM, coupled with his personal efforts. Professor Qiu holds a deep love for outstanding Chinese culture and has a particular expertise in Confucian studies. His poetry emphasizes rhythm, allusions, and the fusion of scenery and emotion, with meaningful content that deeply reflects his patriotism and love for the people. "Jianfeng Lou" is the name of Professor Qiu’s study, and the poetry collection Jianfeng Lou Poems has received praise from the literary and art circles. Over seventy calligraphers contributed to it with their ink, and master painter Lu Yanshao specially painted illustrations for Two Poems on Visiting Huangshan. Professor Qiu’s essays also possess distinctive features—concise in language, profound in thought, and highly readable. Works such as Avoiding Excessive Self-Preservation in Health Preservation, Reminiscences of Tang Yun in Grand Style, and Meeting an Esteemed Person at Yu Huang Temple are widely admired. At the turn of the century, Professor Qiu donated his collection of one hundred thousand volumes of books to the Cixi Library in his hometown. He sincerely stated, "I hope to improve the cultural literacy of my fellow villagers and promote economic development, offering a small contribution," which reflects the broad-mindedness of a contemporary Confucian physician. "A brush for the people is truly precious" is a scroll inscribed by Hu Wansui for Professor Qiu, and it also serves as a true portrayal of his dedication to healing the sick, diligent study of Confucianism, and tireless writing.
