A Comprehensive History of Chinese Thought -- Volume 5

Author: Huo Wailu
Publisher:
Publish Date: 1956-08-01
Features: The author was working on a "History of Modern Chinese Thought and Doctrines" during the Anti-Japanese War period. This is the part covering the 17th to mid-19th centuries, which was supplemented and revised to become a separate book titled "History of Enlightenment Thought in China." The part after the mid-19th century was renamed "Modern Chinese Thought History" and is yet to be rewritten. The author's old work is essentially a set of reading notes, with a structure that is not very rigorous. The period of writing coincided with the second anti-communist upsurge by the Kuomintang reactionaries, and many issues had to be handled tacitly. Although there is a wealth of material, the explanations are brief. Additionally, the original printing was handled by a small refugee printing press, which took two years to complete and was published in rough paper, riddled with errors. The rich philosophical heritage of China must be scientifically summarized from the perspective of Marxist methodology. My research is still in its preliminary stages, so this revised edition must also contain many problems. I sincerely hope to receive criticism from comrades and readers who study philosophy and history.
