Features: In this collection, except for the three appendices, there are four parts. Part can be considered as political essays. Although some of them are reading notes or reviews of certain books, they are all articles that directly discuss political issues. The second part is commentary on historical events. There are 11 articles about modern China before the founding of the People's Republic of China, and the last one discusses historical experiences after the founding of the new China. The third part can be called academic essays, which are divided into three groups. The first group is about social sciences and sociology, the second group is about modern Chinese history, and the third group is about the history of the Communist Party of China. The fourth part includes articles that cannot be categorized into the first three parts and some short articles that could also be categorized into one of the first three parts but are shorter in length. After 1979, I also wrote some articles remembering and commenting on some figures in modern and contemporary history and my deceased friends. These articles were compiled into a collection titled Excellents and Old Friends and published simultaneously with this collection. Most of the articles in this collection have already been published in newspapers and magazines, some of which have been published more than once. The notes at the end of the articles indicate the original publication source, referring to the first place where they were published. Some articles were only presented at certain conferences and have not yet been published in written form. There are one or two articles that have not been published in any form. As for the order of the articles, Part, the third part, and the fourth part are arranged in chronological order of writing, while the second part is arranged in chronological order of the historical events discussed.
