Features: This series of "Literati Lovers" aims to explore the emotional interactions between famous literati and women or men during the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties as the main, using biographical and literary research as primary materials. Through a biographical approach, it presents poignant love stories in an accessible manner, bringing characters to life and recreating the social atmosphere of their time. The selected figures were highly representative of their eras. Yuan Zhen's "Record of Meeting in the Garden" (also known as "The Story of Yingying") has a certain real-life prototype and vividly reflects the marital and romantic ideals of Tang Dynasty literati. The story later evolved into "The Western Chamber," demonstrating the evolution of ancient love concepts. Li Qingzhao and Zhao Mingcheng were an exceptionally devoted couple in Chinese history. Their love was set against the backdrop of the rise of Neo-Confucianism in Song Dynasty, the sudden shift in women's romantic perspectives, and the great social upheaval between the Northern and Southern Song. Zhao Mengfu, a renowned poet, calligrapher, and painter, was also a nobleman of the fallen royal family. Under the Mongol rule of the Yuan Dynasty, his marital and romantic views underwent certain changes, revealing the process of cultural fusion between the Central Plains and foreign influences. Feng Menglong lived in a Ming Dynasty society similar to the modern era, where capitalist elements were beginning to emerge, urban consciousness was awakening, and people pursued sensual pleasures. He paid close attention to women's themes throughout his life, and his works epitomize the views on women and love of Ming Dynasty people. Hou Huizhen, after marrying, became Feng Menglong's muse, who frequently wrote poems in her memory and never visited brothels again. Mao Biqiang and Dong Xiaowan lived during the transition between the Ming and Qing dynasties. Their love story was intertwined with the great changes of their time. Mao Biqiang created a unique "Recollection Style" of love poems for Dong Xiaowan, which became widely celebrated by later generations. However, the historical records of such couples who experienced love and romance varied greatly. Often, one partner's extraordinary success in literary creation made their love story legendary and widely disseminated, while the other partner's name became household knowledge. In this series, Yuan Zhen, Li Qingzhao, Zhao Mengfu, Feng Menglong, and Mao Biqiang all left behind a wealth of literary works and personal life, while the other halves of their stories remained relatively scarce. As a result, the series inevitably focused more on one partner over the other. All these factors vividly illustrate the complex evolution of marital and romantic concepts in ancient China and their diverse manifestations. The series aims to combine popular accessibility with academic rigor. At the same time, it offers a fresh and in-depth understanding of the literary creations of these specific writers. The authors hope that readers will enjoy exploring history with interest and gain aesthetic pleasure, thereby benefiting from the establishment of healthy marital and romantic values. The charming and talented Feng Menglong once "roamed the vibrant world of pleasure and indulged in the fleeting joys of love," but he fell deeply in love with the talented courtesan Hou Huizhen of Suzhou. However, Hou Huizhen eventually married into a wealthy family, leaving Feng Menglong devastated. He fell seriously ill and wrote thirty poems in her memory, vowing never to visit brothels again. This heart-wrenching love tragedy not only changed Feng Menglong's lifestyle and outlook on life but also profoundly influenced his understanding of love. Affirming the unbreakable bond of true love and condemning betrayal became the eternal theme in Feng Menglong's lifelong literary adaptations and critiques of love stories.
