Publish Date: 2004-05-01
Features: One of the main research subjects of this book is the social form, culture, and institutions of the "tribal stage." In the conclusion of Shan Hai Jing and Ancient Society, the author mentioned that studying the origins of Chinese civilization requires a more solid foundation in "tribalology." The theme of this book is "tribalology," representing an attempt to conduct an in-depth study of the origins and development of tribal societies. The second part of this book is an initial exploration of this research, as well as a preliminary verification of the rationality of examining the content and functions of ritual and musical culture and institutions. For example, the book frequently cites content from Zhou Li, which contains many ritual systems that correspond to contemporary documents. After the passage of time, it has become increasingly difficult to clarify the specific details of these concepts and rituals. This book can be considered a "sequel" to Shan, and some of the ideas and methods presented in Shan are further developed here. When the first draft of this book was completed, it mainly included two aspects: one was "stylistic analysis," and the other was a study of ritual and musical culture and institutions. "Stylistic analysis" is an extension of the textual analysis methods used for Shan Hai Jing.
