Features: "The Peninsula War" is also known by another name in the Spanish context, which is "The War of Independence." Indeed, it is the case. In 1807, Napoleon first invaded Portugal, and then attempted to annex the entire Spanish territory. As a result, both the Portuguese people and the Spanish people faced a life-or-death issue—whether they could maintain their national independence and freedom. When writing this book, the following three principles were followed: the accuracy of the materials, the continuity of the narrative, and the fluency of the language. This is to strive to make the content of this manuscript conform to the historical facts of the time, while in the exposition, it is aimed at creating a coherent and vivid narrative that can outline a complete and clear picture for the readers. At the beginning of the book and before each chapter, small interludes have been carefully arranged. They are all drawn from historical records, but in my hands, they appear in the form of stories, which may give readers a fresh sense. Literature and history are originally closely linked. Without a historical background, how can literature exist? Similarly, without the accompaniment of literature, how can history come to life? In this regard, historians and writers can fully work together to co-create.
