Features: The Intruder in the Grave is a late-period "detective novel" by Faulkner. The son of a wealthy family in the town is murdered, and the Black man Lucius is suspected and arrested. The white boy Chick, who once received help from Lucius (and whose perspective the book is written from), does not believe he is the killer. By chance, he gets involved in the case along with a Black friend and a white elderly woman. They discover another body in the victim's grave, providing strong evidence to clear Lucius of suspicion. Meanwhile, Chick convinces his uncle, a lawyer with severe racist views, with facts, ultimately helping Lucius exonerate himself. Through such a case, the book exposes racial discrimination in the United States.
