Features: The poetry of Huang Zhongze enjoyed a wide readership in the turbulent old era. When discussing his family's poverty in his early years, Qu Qiubai once remarked, "Thinking of my distant separation from my father, I don't know when we will be reunited again. The family's dire situation truly reminds me of the line from our Changzhou poet Huang Zhongze: 'In the bitter cold of the wind and snow, this child is no better than none.'”(Journey Through the Starving Countryside)After embracing the revolutionary path, he again mentioned Huang Zhongze in a poem gifted to a friend: "A poet cannot help but feel the weight of sorrow in his life. Huang Zhongze from my hometown, in the cold and snowy embrace of his family."(What I Know of Qu Qiubai by Yang Muzhi)His deep sympathy for Huang Zhongze is evident in his words. Guo Moruo once said that Yu Dafu not only greatly admired Huang Zhongze's poetry but also sympathized with his life, as if intentionally imitating him. His short story Duo Shiji is set with Huang Zhongze as the protagonist, though in reality, it is actually Self-Portrait. (Preface to Yu Dafu's Poems and Prose) In the thirty years before liberation, numerous chronicles, critical essays, and selected collections of Huang Zhongze's works were published, surpassing the number of publications for other Qing Dynasty poets. However, after liberation, while popular histories of Chinese literature included some introductions to him, his collected poems were never reprinted, leaving young readers with limited understanding of his works.
