Features: An individual, an organization, a nation, in the eternal and unceasing flow of time, should look back at a certain point, to see whether they have walked the right path throughout their journey. What is correct should be upheld, and what is wrong should be discarded. This is highly necessary. Our ancestors had many teachings on this matter. What is widely known is the phrase "When the front car overturns, the rear car takes warning," usually translated as "When the front car overturns, the rear car takes warning." These two sentences appear to convey only negative experience, i.e., lessons. However, they also imply that "if the front car does not overturn, it is also a warning for the rear car," which represents positive experience. At the turn of the century, the development of humanities and academia requires reflection and review. This is the need of the advancing socialist cultural cause, and the considerable accumulation achieved by domestic academia in researching contemporary Western studies under the guidance of Marxism has made such reflection and review possible. Thus, we organized scholars to translate and select the Library of Foreign Cultural Figures of the 20th Century.
"A cultural figure" is merely a colloquial term, and the selection of figures is based on academic value. As for the selected writings in each figure's collection, they aim to authentically reflect the intellectual characteristics and academic insights of the individual, providing readers with the opportunity to analyze, study, draw inspiration from, and critique both the person and their works.
