Features: This issue collects selected articles from a special thematic series titled "Chinese Education and Training," published intermittently between 2003 by Editions Peeters. The series comprises three volumes, titled Basic Education, Professional Training, and Non-formal Education, fully showcasing the outcomes of an academic conference held in Paris four years earlier with the same theme. In June 1999, the International Academic Conference on "Chinese Education and Training," organized by the Center for Chinese Studies of the Institute of Sinology (Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales, INALCO) and funded by the Franco-Chinese Foundation, was successfully held in Paris. The primary objective of the conference was to move beyond the traditional focus on official examinations and scholar-official training rooted in orthodox Confucianism, exploring neglected educational methods, perspectives, and related issues. These studies remind us that education, as the core of Confucian thought, is not solely implemented by literati and officials but also requires experts from various fields to join the effort. By examining the education of different dynasties as a whole, spanning from ancient times to the 20th century, we can observe its evolutionary process or fundamental essence.
