Patient's question:
When studying, how to teach and explain still doesn't make sense, and I suspect I might be mentally retarded. What are the symptoms of this condition? Please ask: What are the dangers of intellectual disability?Doctor's answer:
Children with intellectual disabilities often have longer sleep times and are very quiet all day, crying rarely. They take longer than typical children to master various movements (such as sitting, standing, walking, and responding). The cries of children with intellectual disabilities may be sharp or weak, with little variation in tone. When external stimuli cause crying, the time between the start of the stimulus and the resumption of crying is longer. It may take multiple repeated stimuli to elicit crying. They show no interest in toys and will not play with them even if held. From infancy, they may transition from excessive sleeping and inactivity to constant, purposeless movement. The above characteristics are not necessarily present in every child with intellectual disabilities in early stages, and it cannot be said that having one or several of these traits automatically qualifies a child as intellectually disabled.
