Cultivation, Realm, Aesthetics: An Interpretation of Confucian and Taoist Aesthetics of Cultivation

Author: Wang Jianjiang
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-12-01
Features: This book explores ancient Chinese aesthetics from the perspective of Confucian, Taoist, and Buddhist cultivation aesthetics, creatively proposes the concept of "internal aesthetics," and for the first time reveals the aesthetic secrets of life cultivation and life realms, achieving breakthroughs in the research of aesthetic principles. Considering the relative holism of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, as well as issues related to the second edition's funding, several chapters from previously published research on Zhuangzi and Zen Buddhism aesthetics have been thoroughly revised—through the integration of the overall textual context, refinement of ideas, academic processing, and additions/deletions of materials and annotations—to form a cohesive whole, making it convenient for readers. The original title of this book was "The Aesthetic of Cultivation in Confucianism and Buddhism," but upon the suggestion of my mentor, Professor Zhu Liyuan, it was changed to the current title, which seems more appropriate.
