Features: In terms of the origins and developmental characteristics of the history of Bashu, as well as the complexity of its human geography, the richness and diversity of the local market towns within its borders are particularly prominent. This is not only reflected in the layout of settlements and architectural styles but also in the geographical locations, the lifestyles and customs of different ethnic groups in various regions. Moreover, the forms of the market towns we see today may have been rebuilt multiple times after suffering numerous disasters throughout the dynasties, and their dramatic rises and falls in life and death carry more thought-provoking content. The prosperity of some market towns is closely related to the development of one or a few prominent families, and even large families may build independent city towers, fortresses, or estates outside the market towns. By observing the preserved courtyards of different scales and styles, modern people can also roughly understand how the specific aspects of a traditional family's life unfold in such living environments. A simple familiarity with the locals will lead them to share the family heirlooms passed down through generations, along with the stories or hidden truths behind them. Occasionally, they may touch upon the fundamental origins of the ancient towns, but unfortunately, apart from the vague outlines recorded in local chronicles, it seems we can never fully enrich or complete the vivid stories of the local customs and livelihoods of the people in the old market towns. This book systematically introduces nearly twenty Bashu ancient towns, allowing readers to gain a more comprehensive understanding and appreciation of them.
