In the 1979 and 1989 editions of Ci Hai, the Lexical Section had the largest circulation, having exceeded one million copies. Now, based on the requests of readers, we have compiled and published the lexical section of the 1999 edition of Ci Hai, while making efforts to add new entries, correct errors, supplement omissions, update content, refine text, and enrich basic knowledge. At the same time, we have broken the traditional radical arrangement and changed to an arrangement of all entries by Pinyin phonetic order to meet the needs of readers for quick reference. The compilation and publication of Ci Hai: Lexical Section are the result of years of collaborative effort by experts and scholars from Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Beijing, and other places involved in this work. It is the crystallization of the wisdom of experts and scholars and reflects the latest achievements in academic research in the field of Chinese language and literature.
