Features: "The Great Dictionary" is a large-scale comprehensive dictionary. Its publication fills a gap in Chinese lexicography. To date, "The Ci Hai" is the only large-scale comprehensive dictionary in China, encompassing both single characters and general terms, as well as specialized terms across various fields, serving as both a general dictionary and a specialized dictionary. It features a rich vocabulary, convenient retrieval, strong practicality, and is widely favored by readers. With the accelerated pace of knowledge accumulation and innovation, and the improvement of China's cultural literacy, many readers with higher educational backgrounds have raised higher demands for the of "The Ci Hai." Therefore, while continuing to compile new editions of "The Ci Hai" to meet the needs of the times, it is essential to compile a larger-scale, more comprehensive, and richer dictionary than "The Ci Hai." The compilation of "The Great Dictionary" is based on "The Ci Hai," inheriting its strengths while expanding its scope. The focus is on adding new fields and new terms and definitions in various disciplines that have not been covered in "The Ci Hai," as well as appropriately filling in gaps. The entire dictionary contains approximately 250,000 entries, totaling about 50 million words, with each entry being at least twice as many as in "The Ci Hai." It is compiled and published in volumes according to subject categories. Volume One includes over 8,500 medical and pharmaceutical terms, with the selection scope covering: basic terminology in various disciplines of medical and health sciences, medical figures, medical history and literature of traditional Chinese medicine, major theories and doctrines, physiological and pathological conditions of the human body's systems, disease names, diagnostic methods, and medical devices, as well as disease names and pathogens in medical microbiology, parasitology, and medical parasitology that are related to the human body. Volume Two is organized into three major categories: General, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Modern Medicine. Among these, Traditional Chinese Medicine is divided into general terminology, medical history and literature, basic theories, pharmaceuticals, health preservation, and clinical medicine according to traditional disciplinary conventions. Modern Medicine is arranged into basic medicine, clinical medicine, rehabilitation medicine, preventive medicine, as well as military medicine and other specialized medical fields and pharmacy. The categorization is solely for the convenience of retrieval and does not represent the disciplinary system.
