Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus Ping (Translation of Famous Works)

Author: (Austrian) Ludwig Wittgenstein, translated by He Shaojia
Publisher:
Publishing Date: Not available
Features: This is one of the earliest English translations of Ludwig Wittgenstein's Logisch-Philosophische Abhandlung (Logical Philosophy), published in the German journal Annalen der Naturphilosophie in 1921. An earlier English translation was completed by C.K. Ogden with the assistance of F.P. Ramsey and published in parallel with the German original in 1922. The present translation was published in 1961 and also includes the German original. The revisions made in this edition were based on the opinions and comments of Wittgenstein himself, as expressed in his correspondence with C.K. Ogden regarding the earlier English translation. These letters have now been published by Professor von Wright (Blackwell, Oxford, and Routledge & Kegan Paul, London and Boston, 1972). This book is the main work of Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889–1951) and an early, significant work in logical positivism. The author denies causality, asserts that propositions in logic and mathematics are tautological in nature, and claims that all the debated issues in the history of philosophy are meaningless. The task of philosophy is merely the logical analysis of language, i.e., the clarification of everyday language. This idea has had a profound influence on the later development of analytic philosophy.
