Features: The once mysterious and intimidating field of computers has now become a territory where people are eager to venture. Ignorance of computers is regarded as "modern illiteracy"; a wave of computer learning has swept across China. This has made computer English in the 21st century "stand tall" at the forefront of vocational education. The Ministry of Education has high hopes for vocational education in China, proposing with foresight that job requirements should be the starting and ending points of vocational education, focusing on cultivating students' work skills and training skilled and management-oriented talents with comprehensive professional qualities. To this end, we have dedicatedly researched and analyzed the current state of secondary vocational education and, based on the "Training and Guidance Program for Cultivating Skilled and Shortage-Talented Personnel in the Field of Computer Application and Software Technology" issued by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Information Industry, we have meticulously organized and compiled this "Computer English." The primary target audience for this book is students majoring in computer application and technology or related fields in vocational schools. It can also be used by students in higher vocational and technical colleges in related fields. In terms of content organization, the book follows the basic teaching model of "from simple to complex, step by step." It briefly yet systematically introduces the basic knowledge of computers. The materials are, and the language is designed to be easy to understand and lively. If illustrated with images is a highlight of this book, then listening, speaking, training, and leisure time can also be considered a new attempt. The teaching objectives of this book are set as follows: to enable learners to master the basic vocabulary and professional terms of computer English while grasping the fundamental knowledge of computer hardware, software, computer security, and networks; through listening, speaking, reading, and writing exercises, students should be able to understand simple sentences related to computer English, master basic conversations involving computer-related professional knowledge, and improve their reading and translation skills for professional English materials to a certain extent. The book consists of 16 units, covering content related to hardware, operating systems, and the measurement of computer systems. This book aims to help readers understand the original text of the "Book of the Later Han." The annotations extensively reference the annotations of scholars from ancient and modern times, selecting the best and establishing consistency, striving for conciseness and clarity. The translation follows the principles of "faithfulness, expressiveness, and elegance," primarily using literal translation supplemented by free translation, aiming for accuracy and fluency.
II. This book is based on the edition of the Zhonghua Book Company, widely referencing other editions (including the achievements of modern scholars in collation), and directly correcting obvious errors in the text or punctuation of the "pointed edition" or briefly explaining them in the annotations.
III. For the convenience of readers, this book has converted all traditional characters and variant characters in the original text into simplified characters. Homophones remain unchanged, but they are replaced with the current standard characters in the translation.
IV. The annotations in this book include pronunciation, word meaning, personal names, book titles, institutional systems, customs, and related historical facts. Titles of posts and geographical names are generally not annotated. An index of ancient and modern geographical names and a list of Han dynasty officials are appended at the end for reference.
V. Annotations are organized by volume, avoiding repetition within the same annotation item in a volume but not avoiding repetition between volumes to reduce the effort of readers in searching.
VI. For characters in this book with single entries, only "see the biography in Volume ×× of this book" is noted; for characters without entries, a brief introduction to their lives is provided, and relevant facts are explained based on the need to understand the original text.
VII. This book is divided into three volumes based on content and volume. The first volume covers volumes 1 to 41; the second volume covers volumes 42 to 81; the third volume covers volumes 82 to the end of the book.
