Self-awareness

Author: Ivan Illich, translated by Wang Jianzhao
Publisher:
Publish Date: 1998-04-01
Features: Many modernist trends within the cultural sphere of this century originated from Russia during that period. It is known as the "Silver Age" of Russian culture and is often compared to the "Golden Age" of Russian culture, represented by figures like Pushkin and Gogol. In terms of overall influence, the culture of the Silver Age seems to have surpassed that of the Golden Age. While Pushkin and his generation introduced Western culture to Russia, successfully grafting national culture with foreign culture, the generation of the Silver Age, while inheriting the legacy of their predecessors, made creative developments, allowing Russian ideas to reach the world in a model distinct from the traditional understanding of both Eastern and Western cultures. This series primarily focuses on literature but also encompasses other humanities. It includes both separate collections of important authors and compilations of significant trends or schools of thought. It features both highly readable literary works and profound philosophical writings. They are interrelated yet maintain their individual independence, collectively reflecting to some extent the full picture of Russian Silver Age culture.
