Features: This book is by Zhang Henshuizhu, a renowned master of Chinese serial novels and journalist. Originally named Zhang Xinyuan, he was from Qianshan County, Anhui Province. Born in Guangxin, Jiangxi in 1895, he passed away in Beijing in 1967. The pen name "Henshui" was inspired by the line "Self is life, long is the sorrow of water flowing east" from the poem by Li Yu, the last emperor of the Southern Tang Dynasty. Throughout his life, Mr. Zhang Henshuizhu wrote over 120 Chinese and long novels, as well as a large number of poems, essays, and miscellaneous writings, gaining a vast readership in China. He was a highly influential and accomplished writer. His early works, such as Spring City Chronicle, Golden Dust Family, and Cries and Laughter, were once immensely popular, widely read, and highly acclaimed. He excelled at using the white-drawing technique to accurately and vividly depict social life. He was also deeply familiar with the urban life of old China, skillfully portraying the gestures, pursuits, and emotions of ordinary people from the lower strata of society, creating many successful characters that left a lasting impression on readers. At the same time, he was a writer with broad knowledge, skillfully crafting both major and minor figures, as well as people from all walks of life, with lifelike and vivid portrayals. Mr. Zhang Henshuizhu's works have been published multiple times, both as standalone volumes and in selected collections. For this re-publication, we have selected his representative works and titled them "Masterpieces of Zhang Henshuizhu" to accurately reflect his creative ideas and the evolution of his thought process, showcasing his major achievements in writing throughout his life. The publication of "Masterpieces of Zhang Henshuizhu" is a first. Spring City Chronicle (Set of 3 volumes: Upper, Middle, and Lower) is divided into three volumes.
