The reason why late Qing novels are not chosen as doctoral dissertations in literature is that these novels have not yet reached the level of literary significance from a literary perspective. However, from a historical perspective, they are extremely valuable and meaningful, and should be studied as a phenomenon. The Return series is the author's latest creation, a multi-volume novel exceeding one million words, with six published volumes: Sunset Over the Forbidden City, The West Wind Chases the Evening Glow, Years Under the Fence, A Thousand Waves and Winds, Deep Love Remains, and Soaring to the Nine Heavens. Years Under the Fence is the third volume of the The Return series. The work meticulously records the historical changes in Hong Kong from 1841 to 1898 over more than fifty years and continues to unfold the stories of several families introduced in the previous two volumes. Qian Li and Yang Si moved to Hong Kong in 1841. Unwilling to submit to humiliation, they worked hard. Unexpectedly, Yang Si's unique temperament and appearance attracted the attention of Paul Yanna, a foreign trade company boss, who became envious. Qian Li, on the other hand, was framed and imprisoned by Paul's jealous wife. At the critical moment of her husband's life or death, Yang Si had no choice but to seek help from Paul, only to find herself in a dilemma.
