It is a major teaching material in the Chinese Art Education Series·Art Volume, edited and published by our press, and is designed to complement the Chinese Art History textbook and the History of Chinese Sculpture textbook also published by our press, helping readers understand the great tradition of Chinese sculpture art. The Chinese Art History textbook has won the Second Prize of the National Outstanding College Textbooks Award from the Ministry of Education in 2002, while the History of Chinese Sculpture has received the Second Prize of the Outstanding Teaching Material Award from the Ministry of Culture's Higher Art Colleges. As the author of the History of Chinese Sculpture textbook, Dr. Sun Zhenhua has compiled this illustrated handbook based on years of experience in teaching and researching the history of Chinese sculpture, serving as a reference book for art teachers and students. The handbook includes 1,200 images of sculptures, nearly encompassing all significant works in ancient Chinese sculpture history from the primitive society to the late Qing Dynasty, making it a visual history of Chinese sculpture. Its introduction, brief introductions to each historical period, information on specific works, and the appended references to major illustrated materials on Chinese sculpture provide readers with a comprehensive information database. Through this illustrated handbook, readers can appreciate the different categories, functions, and stylistic transformations of Chinese sculpture across different eras, thereby grasping the intrinsic relationship between Chinese sculpture and the development of Chinese culture. The accompanying CD-ROM converts the black-and-white images in the book into color images and introduces simple methods for creating teaching presentations, facilitating teaching and appreciation.
