Features: Maurice de Vlaminck (1876–1958) was a French painter. Born on April 4, 1876, in Paris, he passed away on October 11, 1958, in Rueil-la-Gadelière. He called himself a rebel against tradition and once claimed to destroy art academies with cobalt blue and crimson. In his paintings, he loved to use strong contrasts in color, believing that color itself had a powerful emotional impact. In his early career, he belonged to the Fauvism movement, but after 1908, he gradually abandoned Fauvism and began to embrace the influence of Cubism. Vlaminck was a renowned Fauvist painter of the same generation as Matisse and Derain. His painting style is considered a typical and distinctive example of Fauvism. He skillfully employed strong contrasts in color and wild brushwork. He said, "I depict the truth of humanity." Beyond oil paintings, he also created many colorful prints.
