Features: Hu Xiaoshi (1888–1962), whose given name was Guangwei, styled Xiaoshi, was also known as Qianyin and Xialu (his studio name was "Yuanxialu"). In his later years, he used the sobriquets Zixia and Shagong. Originally from Jiaxing, Zhejiang, he grew up in Nanjing. He graduated from the Agricultural Department of the Liangjiang Advanced Normal School in 1909. He successively served as professor, department head, and head of the College of Liberal Arts at institutions such as Beijing Women's Normal School, Wuchang Advanced Normal School, Jinling University, Southeast University, and Central University. After 1949, he served as professor and head of the College of Liberal Arts, as well as director of the library at Nanjing University. He dedicated his career to the study and teaching of ancient scripts, phonology, etymology, classics, historical records, the works of the Hundred Schools of Thought, Buddhist and Daoist scriptures, inscriptions, and calligraphy and painting, achieving profound expertise.
