Features: The textbook selections are closely tied to daily life, university life, and various aspects of technological development. Each lesson is concise and uses a high frequency of words, helping students build a solid language foundation. This enables students to gain a relatively proficient and comprehensive grasp of the common usage of two to three thousand frequently used words through their first-year studies, and to use the learned vocabulary fluently and appropriately for oral and written communication on general daily topics. This book helps teachers and students:
1. Make better use of extracurricular study time.
2. Make better use of in-class time.
3. Facilitate independent learning.
The book includes five parts:
(1) Vocabulary List;
(2) Common Word Learning;
(3) Extended Discussion/Writing Topics;
(4) Self-Assessment Exercises;
(5) Growth Inspiration Reading Sections.
Each part has the following features:
1. The Vocabulary List not only provides Chinese and English definitions based on the words' meanings in the lessons but also offers common collocations, usage features, or register based on their characteristics.
2. The Common Word Learning section selects only active words, with example sentences from authoritative dictionaries, reflecting practicality and timeliness. Most of the sentences are vivid and reflect current social life and phenomena.
3. It provides extended discussion/writing topics combined with the lessons, guiding students to engage in higher-level language activities and further improve their oral and written expression skills.
4. The Self-Assessment Exercises are designed to:
(1) Be closely tied to the lessons, reflecting the key and difficult points of each lesson, mainly including spelling, vocabulary and grammar exercises, translation exercises, etc.;
(2) Combine in-class and extracurricular knowledge, providing one to two slightly more challenging extracurricular reading exercises for each lesson to further improve reading skills;
(3) Directly include answers after the self-assessment exercises for self-study.
5. The Growth Inspiration Reading Sections include outstanding works of quality education, allowing students to savor each masterpiece and guide them in shaping a beautiful character.
