Features: The goal of the reform of the College English Test Band 6 (CET-6) is to more accurately assess the comprehensive English application skills of Chinese college students, particularly their listening and speaking abilities, in order to reflect the demands of China's reform and opening-up on students' English proficiency. The reform of the CET-6 began as a pilot program in December 2006, targeting candidates from 180 universities participating in English teaching reform initiatives. In the new authentic test released in December 2006, the listening section was divided into three parts: Part 1 consisted of 8 short dialogues and 2 long dialogues; Part 2 included 3 passages; and Part 3 was the compound dictation. The test duration was also extended from 20 minutes to 35 minutes. This indicates that the listening section has become even more important in the CET-6 after the reform.
