According to the "Course Requirements" and the current English listening and speaking levels of students, the revision work for the first to the fourth volumes of this textbook focuses on the following aspects:
1. Purpose:
1) To help students master the necessary listening skills;
2) To further improve students' listening comprehension at the discourse level;
3) To help students master various communicative functions and cultivate their oral expression skills;
4) To gradually develop students' ability to speak single sentences and longer passages.
2. Topics:
About 70% of the topics from the original first to the fourth volumes are retained, while approximately 30% are newly added topics that are closer to the times.
3. Selections:
The textbook language is made to be fluent, natural, and standardized; the content is both interesting and up-to-date. Some effective passages are retained, while about 70% of the texts are newly selected materials.
4. Speaking Practice:
Students are organized to engage in Q&A around the text content, providing daily spoken expressions for various communicative functions and model dialogues. Various scenarios are set up to provide students with multiple opportunities for oral activities, thereby improving their practical speaking skills (i.e., speaking with substance).
5. Recording Speed:
To ensure that the listening requirements of the "Course Requirements" for students are met, the selected texts in the textbook are recorded at normal speaking speed.
